KIRKWOOD, NY - Mike Gular's high hopes for a strong effort in Sunday evening's Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour Southern Tier 100 at Five Mile Point Speedway fell to a deflated right-rear tire past the race's halfway mark.
Gular lost a lap in the exchange and brought the T&S Motorsports No. 53 home in 18th position.
The Green Lane, Pa., driver flashed some speed early in the program with a dominant heat-race victory over eventual Southern Tier 100 winner Stewart Friesen.
"It's disappointing after we were so good in the heat race," Gular said after the 100. "But we got some notes and ideas that we can bring back here next year."
