Gular Encouraged By Bridgeport Performance

BRIDGEPORT, NJ - The finish of last Thursday night's MS Race for the Cure 40-lap big-block Modified event for Mike Gular don't accurately tell the tale of the night's performance.

Qualifying via a consolation for the event, the THP No. 53 was working forward in the talent-filled field, closing in on a top-10 run before power steering issues sent Gular to the infield on lap 22.

A DNF and 22nd-place finish resulted.

"We made some changes and the car was a lot better for the feature," said Gular, who gained valuable seat time at the Jay James-promoted facility.

"I thought we could've gotten a top-10 finish out of it at least."

The next big-block Mod event for the THP No. 53 is Wed., Aug. 20 at New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway.

It wasn't for lack of effort, but Saturday night's program at Grandview (Pa.) Speedway wasn't kind to driver Mike Gular and the S&N Racing team.

Completing engine repairs during the week, the S&N team fought fuel issues from the first time the No. 8 hit the track for hot laps.

Missing the heat race and consolation events, the team labored to change a fuel pump among other tasks and started the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 358-Modified feature from 30th position using a provisional.

Making a steady run through the field, Gular ducked to the infield on lap 21 with an overheating engine, resulting in a DNF and 25th-place finish.

"It wasn't completely fixed," Gular said. "I was afraid it didn't have fuel pressure and I didn't want to burn a piston, so I pulled in."
